This eight-part series focuses on the range of singing traditions that encompass African and other Black Americans' contributions to our American musical style. From West African Griots all the way up through modern Rap, your students will explore a wide variety of musical genres and styles all while simultaneously building their musical and cultural knowledge. 

Most of this series is free to stream in its entirety via our streaming partner Sensical. The full series, including lesson resources, etc. is available for purchase by contacting the school programs team (link at top of page).

Appropriate for middle school students. This five-part video series will teach you how to sing and perform the corresponding American Sign Language to the popular Broadway song 'Seasons of Love' from the musical Rent. In additional to building basic singing technique and learning new words in ASL, you will also learn how to follow a musical score and begin to learn how to sight read a vocal part.

This series was originally created for 3rd - 5th grade students at Public School 373 on the northwest tip of Staten Island where students have a view from their desks of ships from all over the world arriving and departing New York Harbor. This series is fun for the whole family/classroom to sing along joyfully!

In this series, students will adapt a segment of text from Amanda Gorman's poem from the recent presidential inauguration into their own original songs! Met Guild Teaching Artist Andrea Palma takes us step by step as we discover the beat, determine melodic direction, discuss dynamics and articulation, and finally work within a harmonic structure. Learners with no previous musical experience will be able to use our unique music notation system to quickly capture their creativity!

Each episode can be further broken down into one of three main segments: 1) hello/goodbye songs and active movement, 2) story time where we meet a new opera character each week, and 3) a fun craft activity to help us explore the musical concepts of pitch, rhythm, reading a score, articulation, and sound waves!

In this STANDARDS RICH writing series appropriate for upper elementary students. Met Guild Teaching Artist Elizabeth Van Os teaches us to compose our own original song with words. In this five-video series, we will: write lyrics, build a Sound Universe, explore rhythm and beat, learn about melody and singing, and finally we will produce our song! Students will use Chrome Music Lab to produce their own accompaniment tracks for their original compositions.
