Welcome to the 2020-2021 Met Opera Guild Virtual Residency programming page! On this page you will find our premium content for academic partners. In addition to the content you see highlighted here, our talented staff of teaching artists are available to work with you to create a custom learning solution for your students. We specialize in Integrated Arts Education, and would love to help you dream about what Opera-Based Learning could do for your students! Early Childhood +

Learning activities are appropriate for pre-school and older. Opera content appropriate for all family members.

Middle School +

Learning activities are appropriate for students grades 6 and older. Some opera content may not be appropriate for young family members.

High School +

Learning activities are appropriate for students grades 9 and older. Opera content is intended for a mature audience.

This eight-part series focuses on the range of singing traditions that encompass African and other Black Americans' contributions to our American musical style. From West African Griots all the way up through modern Rap, your students will explore a wide variety of musical genres and styles all while simultaneously building their musical and cultural knowledge.

This five-part custom video series for students at PS 373R will teach you how to sing and perform the corresponding American Sign Language to the popular song 'I Love a Rainy Night.' In addition to building basic singing technique and learning new words in ASL, you will also learn how to follow a musical score and begin to learn how to sight read a vocal part.

In this five-part video series, Met Guild Teaching Artist Gina Hanzlik shows us how we can use sound effects ('FX') to enhance a drama based on a graphic novel. This standards rich series focuses on close reading and interpreting and performing text from the graphic novel 'When Stars are Scattered.'

In this STANDARDS RICH writing series appropriate for upper elementary students. Met Guild Teaching Artist Elizabeth Van Os teaches us to compose our own original song with words. In this five-video series, we will: write lyrics, build a Sound Universe, explore rhythm and beat, learn about melody and singing, and finally we will produce our song! Students will use Chrome Music Lab to produce their own accompaniment tracks for their original compositions.
